BEST FRIENDS

Henri Nouwen put it this way: "When we honestly ask ourselves which people in our lives mean the most to us, we often find that it is those who—instead of giving advice, solutions, or cures—have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a gentle and tender hand. The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not-knowing, not-curing, not-healing, and face with us the reality of our powerlessness—that is the friend who cares."

BRIGHT LIGHTS!

blinding light!

This morning I attended a Men's Prayer Breafast and the speaker was talking about being lights for God. Jesus Himself said we should be salt and light to the world. Salt can be an irritant to an open wound. In the same way light if it's really bright can sting our eyes. We have a hard time adjusting to it. If we are truly taking on the nature and image of God shouldn't the world be blinded by our bright light. Shouldn't it iritate them making it difficult accomodate our presence into their sinful world. True we should have love and compassion but Jesus was always irritating the proud self willed men who were unwilling to change. I honestly had to ask myself, When was the last time someone was blinded by my actions or irritated by my words?
